The Argus Quartet is a Los Angeles-based string quartet dedicated to reinvigorating the audience-performer relationship through new and innovative concert presentations of diverse and adventurous repertoire.
Formed in the summer of 2013, the Argus Quartet is already receiving accolades and invitations from concert series around the world. Among their most recent accomplishments is a commissioning grant from Chamber Music America for a new string quartet written by the composer and GRAMMY nominee, Eric Guinivan. Upcoming performances include appearances at Laguna Beach Live!, Encinitas’ Music By The Sea, and the Cello Biënnale Amsterdam. The quartet was recently selected as one of only a handful of quartets to attend the Juilliard String Quartet Seminar in New York City.
The Argus Quartet believes that today’s ensembles must honor the storied chamber music traditions of our past while forging a new path forward. In that spirit, the quartet’s repertoire includes not just staples of the chamber music canon, but also a large number of works by living composers.
Beyond its commitment to performing chamber music at the highest level, the Argus Quartet aims to engage audiences in unique ways – presenting narrative and background along with music, live Tweeting performances, weaving visual media into the fabric of the live-music experience, and performing in unique and nontraditional concert spaces.
Polished, energetic performances of works both old and new are essential to the quartet’s mission, but bridging the all too cavernous gap between audience and musician is at the very core of what we do.
